Chrysler recently announced that 2011 was the company's first profitable year since 1997. An automedia.com article reported that Chrysler's sales increase over the past year was the greatest of any of the Big Three with an amazing 37.1% spike. 2012 is set to continue the trend—nearly 100,000 more Chrysler vehicles were sold this January than in the same month in 2011, according to an article in the New York Daily News.
The company's revitalization is great news for both customers and employees. On February 2, Chrysler announced in an on-site news conference that it is hiring 1,800 new workers and increasing production at its plant in Belvidere, Illinois. 500 of the employees are expected to work on the new Dodge Dart, and the others will work on the Jeep Compass and Liberty models.
